Therapy for Meaningful Change

In person and virtual psychotherapy for adults who are navigating life’s challenges, relationship concerns, important life decisions, and are looking to know more about themselves. My office location is downtown Victoria, BC.

Welcome

Hi, I'm Jenny Thomson.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor in Victoria, BC. I have a MA from the University of Victoria and over 20 years of experience providing counselling and support in non-profit and public organizations.

My approach to counselling is relational and collaborative, informed by many years of experience in the counselling profession, as well as my education, life experiences, relationships with others and my own work as a client in therapy.

I am an engaged therapist, balancing warmth and empathy with gentle challenges and support in identifying and disrupting patterns in your life that may not be working. My practice is integrative and influenced by various modalities, including emotion-focused therapy, family systems perspectives, somatic ways of working, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and attachment theory to help clients increase understanding of self and create meaningful change.

How I can help you change

Therapy helps people to deepen self-awareness and connect with their internal emotional world. Together we can work to align thoughts, feelings, values, behaviours, and life experiences, helping you better understand and regulate your emotions. Our work can strengthen the connection between mind and body, allowing you to access a more embodied sense of knowing and build greater trust in yourself and your decision-making. We can explore patterns and beliefs that may no longer be serving you, gently challenging stuck places and developing healthier ways of relating to yourself and others. This process can increase your capacity to navigate complexity, uncertainty, and conflicting emotions, supporting greater emotional balance and resilience during difficult times.

Relational and Life Challenges

Relational and Life Challenges

Many people seek counselling during challenging times in their lives. This could be navigating a life change, difficulties in personal, family or romantic relationships, struggling in day to day life, and/or experiencing feelings of unhappiness. Understanding self, emotions, relationship patterns and how past experiences influence daily life and relationships can be valuable to explore through counselling.

02

Personal and Emotional Growth

Personal and Emotional Growth

Sometimes people come to therapy not to solve a specific problem, but to better understand themselves. Gaining insight into our emotions and how our past and present experiences, family, and society shape us is meaningful work. This can lead to a deeper understanding of self, our relationships and the choices we make. This work can increase life satisfaction by helping us live in closer alignment with our values and the life we want.

03

Family Estrangement

Family Estrangement

Many people have difficulty in their family of origin or immediate family that can result in estrangement from a parent(s), sibling (s) or other family members. Family estrangement can take various forms, having varying degrees of closeness and distance and may last for different durations. I support anyone that is impacted by estrangement whether it is your choice or not.

04

Navigating a Child-Free Life

Navigating a Child-Free Life

More people are living child-free lives. Being child-free can bring up a variety of experiences that can affect emotional well being, family and personal relationships. Therapy can be helpful in working through these unique challenges.
